On the Edge: Hidden Fore-Edge Paintings

Fore Edge Paintings are beautiful works of art found painted on the fore-edges of books. Some you can directly see, others are hidden until you fan the pages of the book to reveal a beautiful painted scene. Many of these hidden fore-edge paintings became popular in the late 18th-early 19th centuries.

They are worth taking a look at.

The following link goes to the Boston Public Library and their gallery of fore-edge paintings.
